“Be still and know that I AM God.” Psalm 46:1

Silent Power — who knew those two words could go together so gracefully and cause a plethora of emotions.

There is that moment right before pandemonium erupts, in any given calamity, that has a paralyzing stillness which is discomforting and frightening. The fear of the unknown and the power of stillness.

So many of us are afraid of what lies beyond the stillness because our culture has taught us that there is always a strange quiet that seems to fall upon all of nature right before some natural phenomenon unfolds. We think of disasters awaiting us in the shadows of our stillness. Perhaps that is why we are afraid to get still before our Father. We may be afraid of what He is going to say to us.

I am here to tell you, my sweet and God-fearing Poiema friends, “Don’t be!”

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Psalm 37:7, Jeremiah 29:11)

When our Father instructs us to be still, we have no idea the power that He is about to unleash in our spirits. Oh, if we could only truly be still long enough to receive it! He is your Father and He wants to give you good things. Those things may not seem good at first. It may be a pruning of rotten or weak fruit that you have produced. Or He may recall a moment in your life that caused a soul-wound that festered into a bad habit or a bad way of thinking that is causing you to be trapped in a natural silence where there is only fear and condemnation.

But God. He wants to pull you into His supernatural silence where there is only love and counsel. God is love. “There is no fear in love, perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. Whoever fears are not perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18)

Get alone with your Heavenly Father today. Listen to what He has to say to you. Be still and know that He is God. The world’s silence brings us fear of the unknown. God’s silence brings us closer to Him and we find ourselves surrounded by a beautiful stillness called Peace. God designed our bodies to heal themselves in a posture of stillness physically and spiritually. I cannot stress enough how important daily stillness before God with your Bible is to activate His healing promises in your spirit, soul, and body.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are set on You, because they trust in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock Eternal.” (Isaiah 26:3-4)

A.B. Simpson, founder of Christian and Missionary Alliance, said that we cannot go through life strong and fresh on constant express trains, with ten minutes for lunch; but we must have quiet hours in secret places of the Highest.

This paragraph from his book, The Life of Prayer and the Power of Stillness says it all.

“Then came the conflict of thoughts for the morrow, with its duties and cares. But God said, “Be still.” And as I listened, and slowly learned to obey, and shut my ears to every sound, I found after a while, that when the other voices ceased, or I ceased to hear and heed them, there was a still, small voice in the depths of my being that began to speak with an inexpressible tenderness, power, and comfort. As I listened it became to me the voice of prayer, and the voice of wisdom, and the voice of duty, and I did not need to think so hard, but that “still, small voice” of the Holy Spirit in my heart was God’s prayer in my secret soul; was God’s answer to all my questions; was God’s life and strength for soul and body, and became the substance of all knowledge, and all prayer, and blessing; for it was the living God Himself as my life and my all.”

Selah.

“You are God’s girl and He loves you! You sprinkle His seeds of love wherever you go!” Those words were spoken to me by my husband Joe many years ago. They came at a time when I was questioning my self-worth in God’s Kingdom, purposes, and plans. The Father made sure that in my darkest spiritual hour, I heard His Truth about my identity and self-worth. It has been my passion ever since to deliver that same message to any who may need to hear it. It is not about who we are, but Whose we are, and I am God’s girl!
