We all need to allow God to heal our brokenness. I use the word “allow” because it is an action verb that gives permission. This means we have to actively participate in the decision-making process. This involves trust, obedience, and dependency on a relationship with the Father. In Luke 4:18 Jesus proclaimed, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, recover sight to the blind and set free those that are broken.”

Easter Devotion brokennessJesus had to understand brokenness at the deepest level in order to go to the Cross. He had to bring with Him humanity’s temptations and sins. He had to carry our griefs and sicknesses. He even had to face death itself to conquer them all, which He did!

Beloved, Jesus was not being punished for His sins; He was being punished for ours.

And, He allowed this to happen because He knew victory was on the other side of His death.  “Greater love has no one than this, that He lay down His life for His friends.” (John 15:13)

I recently broke a vase that left sharp pieces of pottery inside of its belly when it hit the ground. It became a powerful word-picture for me of what can happen when we don’t invite Jesus into the healing process.  Shards like unforgiveness, resentment, offense, and bitterness will remain stuck inside your heart. These types of strongholds will get trapped in your soul and continue to poke at you, eventually leaving behind painful emotional scars. But God sent Jesus to clean-up your broken messes. This Easter, take a brief moment and watch how He destroyed the works of the devil on the Cross. See how He can bring you to a place where you can now rest in the Father’s Love during times of difficulty and sorrow.
