“Submit to God, and you will have peace; then things will go well for you. Listen to His instructions and store them in your heart.” Job 22:21-22

If you cannot sense the Presence of Holy Spirit in you, turn towards your heart and see if there is anything quenching or blocking Him from connecting with your spirit. Some things that can disconnect Him are distractions, pride, unforgiveness, lack of knowledge of His Word, and being focused too much on feelings. Do you want a deeper connection with Him today?

Start here:

Bible. He draws from your knowledge of the scriptures to connect with you.

John 14:26
“The Spirit will teach you everything and will remind you of what I said while I was with you.”

Worship. He is moved by our praise and adoration.

Psalm 147:11
“The Lord is pleased only with those who worship Him and trust His love.”

Prayer. Cultivate a relationship by speaking with Him as a trusted friend. He wants to talk with you, and He wants you to hear Him.

Ephesians 6:18
“Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.”

Stillness. Get quiet with Holy Spirit and just sit with Him in the stillness. Listen for His whisper and nudging.

Psalm 37:7
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”

Obedience. When Holy Spirit prompts you to act — obey Him. This pleases Him and He will continue to use you for assignments to help grow spiritual fruit in you.

Acts 5:32
“We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

Thankfulness. Gratitude to God in all things will encourage your heart and grow a lasting joy from within which is a fruit of the Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the Will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Gather. Being around other like-minded, Holy Spirit filled people of faith will help you to connect to Him better. Gather in fellowship, prayer, worship, and thanksgiving and watch Him respond!

Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three are gathered in My Name, there am I among them.”

Journal. Journaling is a way to help you remember those times Holy Spirit got you through a tough season. Going back and reading over how He helped you becomes your personal testimony to His faithfulness and encourages you to lean in deeper to connect with Him.

Habakkuk 2:2
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

Surrender. When you give Holy Spirit full control over your life He becomes a part of you. You then will easily be able to distinguish between His Voice and your thoughts.

Galatians 5:24-25
“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Pastor and author A.W. Tozer believes one of the biggest hindrances to a Spirit-filled life is complacency which leads to an ignorance and passivity of the Gospel’s truth. He wrote, “The filling of the Spirit, then, requires that we give up our all, that we undergo an inward death …The Holy Spirit is a living Person and should be treated as a person. We must never think of Him as a blind energy nor as an impersonal force. He hears and sees and feels as any person does. He speaks and hears us speak. We can please Him or grieve Him or silence Him as we can any other person.”

The indwelling of the Spirit is a gift given to all Believers in Jesus. He is our helper, comforter, truth-seeker, gift-giver and guide through life. The filling of the Spirit comes by obedience and surrender. We should be so completely yielded to the Holy Spirit that He can possess us fully and, in that sense, fill us. You not only can grieve Him with your outward actions, but also your innermost thoughts and motives. If you want to be filled with the Spirit, you must give Him unyielding occupancy in every part of your life and allow Him to guide and control you.

Are you ready to make that kind of commitment? I pray you are after reading this blog.

ABOUT MARIE SCINTO

Marie Scinto

“You are God’s girl and He loves you! You sprinkle His seeds of love wherever you go!” Those words were spoken to me by my husband Joe many years ago. They came at a time when I was questioning my self-worth in God’s Kingdom, purposes, and plans. The Father made sure that in my darkest spiritual hour, I heard His Truth about my identity and self-worth. It has been my passion ever since to deliver that same message to any who may need to hear it. It is not about who we are, but Whose we are, and I am God’s girl!
