âThe Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.â Zephaniah 3:17
During a recent time of worship with the Lord, I heard Him singing a song over us. In it, Jesus taught me about the essence of His Presence which fulfills our every desire and every need simply by sitting at His feet like Mary.
Luke 10:38-41~
As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lordâs feet listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, âLord, donât you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!â âMartha, Martha,â the Lord answered, âyou are worried and upset about many things, but few things are neededâor indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.â
He explained how there is a Martha-kind of praying and a Mary-kind of praying. When we pray like Mary, we are communing with God, enjoying His Presence, and sitting at His feet to solely gaze upon His beauty to simply adore Him. A Martha-kind of praying happens when we get distracted during that solitude time and start working ourselves up to experience a supernatural encounter. Our gaze is drawn away from who Jesus is to what He can give.
I heard Him say to me, âStay in the essence of My Presenceâ.
A simple definition of the word essence is described as whatever most sums up the heart and soul of something, its truest most indispensable qualities. The essence of God, therefore, is a culmination of His Nature. It is His very Being that comes down and surrounds a person who is sitting at His feet and longing to be drawn into His love. You are dearly loved by God. He loves you unconditionally â meaning, whether you respond back to His love for you or not â He still and always will dearly love you.
Are you praying so you can breakthrough into the spiritual realm to attain a vision, encounter, or experience? Or are you praying to be brought into the communion of His Presence â to just be in His Being? To behold that essence when you are praying, do not do a Martha-kind of prayer in hopes that it will lead you to an encounter, but do a Mary-kind of prayer which leads you into His Presence â then stay there! In that place of total surrender and adoration is where the encounters will happen naturally â or should I say, supernaturally!
Here is the song He gave us:
âCome up higher. Come up higher and you will see. Lift yourself up, lift yourself up to Me. You are just a pilgrim in this world passing through, understand what I AM saying to you. Reach inside of you, look at this world through your heart. Right now, you just see in part, but through Me, you will see fully, fully you shall see, come up higher, come up higher. Look down, look down and all around from Heavenâs view then you will understand what I AM saying to you. So come up higher, come up higher, and you will see, you will see the things that I AM showing you. You will see the things that I AM showing you when you look at them through My view. So come up higher, lift yourself up higher, and you will see.â Oh God, what are you showing me? Â âI want you to look inside. I want you to look inside and see what I placed in you. He that is in you is greater than the things that this world is showing you. I want you to look through. Look through, look through your heart. Right now, you see in part but come up here and I will make it clear. You will see. You will see when you sit quietly with Me. Take your time, take your time â make your time sacred with Me, and you will see.â
Let us learn from Mary and choose to love Jesus FIRST by sitting at His feet and gazing upon His love for us as we reciprocate back to Him our love through our mindful and attentive adoration for Him.

ABOUT MARIE SCINTO
“You are Godâs girl and He loves you! You sprinkle His seeds of love wherever you go!â Those words were spoken to me by my husband Joe many years ago. They came at a time when I was questioning my self-worth in Godâs Kingdom, purposes, and plans. The Father made sure that in my darkest spiritual hour, I heard His Truth about my identity and self-worth. It has been my passion ever since to deliver that same message to any who may need to hear it. It is not about who we are, but Whose we are, and I am Godâs girl!
