In A.W. Tozer’s book, God’s Pursuit of Man, he challenges the reader to allow the Holy Spirit to take charge of their life by expecting unquestioning obedience in everything. That is what it means to make Jesus Lord over your life.
The Word of God is trustworthy. And faith means to trust — we need to obey it all, even the parts where we disagree. It requires more than us making an emotional or intellectual decision; its message is a call to submissive obedience. It is more than being convinced of the truth of the Gospel; it is a forsaking of this world and a following of the Master.
Tozer continued by saying, “You will find the Spirit to be in sharp opposition to the easy ways of the world … He will take the direction of your life away from you. He will reserve the right to test you, to discipline you, to chasten you for your soul’s sake.” (Page 135)
Spirit-filled Believers need to be committed to biblical truth. No matter how hard it may be to understand, we must surrender to the teachings of the entire Word of God.
This is exactly what biblical love requires us to do. We must speak the truth to one another, with love, so that we can grow in our spiritual maturity. The biblical love I am referring to is agape love, a self-sacrificial love that works for the benefit of the loved one. We do this by discipling one another in the foundational truths laid out in God’s Word — truths about who God is and what He has called us to do. Truths that reproof, correct and instruct us in righteousness so that Believers in God may be perfected and thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Living a Spirit-filled life of surrender and obedience seems severe, but like Tozer said, “Let us remember that the Way of the Cross is never easy."
Just ask Jesus.
If you do not trust in Jesus who is Truth, you will end up trusting in the world’s truth which is twisted and wicked. This will lead you into believing a lie about who you are and who He made you to be. If your heart is feeling rejected, abandoned, and downcast know that Jesus is reaching out to you right now. Those emotions are not from your Heavenly Father, they are from the enemy of your soul trying to steal, kill and destroy your destiny. Allow the Father to redefine you and free you from the prison of your own expectations of perfection. The world lies to us about what perfection looks like Beloved. We are perfected in Jesus. We are made perfect in Him and when you trust and obey Him through His Word you will find total peace/shalom — nothing missing, nothing broken. (Hebrews 10:1-18)
Jesus gave me this message for you today. Be encouraged. You are greatly loved:
“Come to Me all who are downcast and weary and let Me give you My Peace. I have walked this road before, and I AM acquainted with your sorrow. I will give you more than a commiserating shoulder. I will give you the healing, provision, and answer that you are looking for to get out of this circumstance. I only ask for you to trust Me. I will turn your weeping into joy and bring you to a new level of grace, mercy, and favor. The Enemy came at you one way, but he will have to flee in seven directions. My Angels have gotten ahead of this and are scattering your foes. Keep walking, Beloved. The victory is ahead of you, but you will not receive it unless you keep walking. Do not give up. Keep walking. I AM by your side. I AM guiding you and I have My army of Angels surrounding you.
Submit now to My Will. I promise what you are going through is not My will. I have so much more for you to experience. You are needed in My Kingdom. I have a purpose and plan for you, and I can use this trial for your benefit and slap the Enemy down to size. I have given the foe, causing this to happen, over to you. You will not only defeat it through your trust in Me, but you will have dominion over all the demonic enemies of your soul. It will become your banner that you carry for all the world to see. We won! And these demons will not be able to come against you again! You have passed your test! Your obedience, submission and repentance are now your daily assignment to work alongside Me to free others being held captive by this same enemy. Your suffering will not be in vain. Beloved, I hear your cry and see your tears; I am collecting them all. I feel your torment.
Keep walking. Trust Me. Have faith in Me. I have got this, and I know how it ends. I AM there waiting for you. Your reward is at hand - in My Hand. Come to Me now and receive it along with the Keys to My Kingdom. The dawn has come, the dark night of your soul is over. I AM the Light at the end. Just focus on that Light and follow it through this valley. Keep this Word in your heart as you move forward. Do not grow weary. It is almost over. Trust Me. Obey My Voice."
