“He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.” Mark 14:13

Do you have an Upper Room? A place in your home and heart to be with God? The Upper Room was not just some rented out space for a conference hosted by Jesus. Notice how it was furnished and ready for them. This was a special location planned in advanced to fulfill one of the greatest celebrated events the world has ever known. It was history in the making. So, what pivotal phenomena took place in the Upper Room that shifted the course of humanity back in line with God’s perfect Will?

Communion
Believers from all denominations partake in this sacred, intimate exchange with the Lord using bread as a symbol of the Body of Jesus, and wine as a symbol of His Blood. It should be a very personal time of thanksgiving, reflection, repentance, healing and cleansing of your soul, which in turn, will feed your spirit and renew your walk with the Lord. It serves as a continued refreshing and infilling of His divine power. It keeps us spiritually nourished and connected with other Believers.

1 Corinthians 11:26-29
“Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are retelling the story, proclaiming our Lord’s death until He comes. For this reason, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in the wrong spirit will be guilty of dishonoring the Body and Blood of the Lord. So let each individual first evaluate his own attitude and only then eat the bread and drink the cup.”

Indwelling of Holy Spirit
God’s Spirit was poured out among those in the Upper Room, filling them with power from on high. Now God dwells within every Believer.

John 14:23
Jesus replied, “All who love Me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and We will come and make Our home with each of them.”

Luke 24:49
“Listen carefully: I AM sending the promise of My Father [the Holy Spirit] upon you; but you are to remain in the city [of Jerusalem] until you are clothed (fully equipped) with power from on high.”

Ephesians 1:13-14
“Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory.”

Refuge
It was a place where His appearance brought an overwhelming sense of peace and joy. It is now a place to go when we need reassurance, guidance, and council from the Lord.

John 20:19-20

“Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.”

Transformation
The disciples were transformed into fearless bold vessels for the Gospel; and from that moment on they were unashamed, even knowing the risks that it carried. The transforming power of Jesus Christ is available for all of us in our Upper Room. We must run to it and stay there until we have been filled, then we need to go out and fill others.

Acts 4:31
“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly.”

2 Corinthians 3:18
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Resurrection life
There are two accounts where people were raised from the dead in an upper room. In Acts 20:7-12, a young man in Troas named Eutychus fell to his death from a third-story window and Paul resurrected him. In Acts 9:36-43, a girl named Tabitha was raised by Peter in Joppa.

Upper rooms were spaces of spiritual significance because they were a dedicated place set aside specifically for prayer and communion with the Lord. They were used for gatherings, teachings, and divine encounters. Today, Christians can invite the Presence of the Lord into any place they are at by spending time with Him in prayer, worship, thanksgiving, and meditation on His Word.

In the Upper Room of our hearts, we can find a place of divine encounters—where our mountains of fear turn into shields of faith, and believers can receive Holy Spirit’s power, truth, and guidance from God. It may be our favorite chair, room, or backyard spot in the physical; however, in the spiritual, it is a place of communion with God, inner dialogue, and outward travail in prayer. It is a charging station to fill us with God’s divine purpose and plans for our lives.

ABOUT MARIE SCINTO

Marie Scinto

“You are God’s girl and He loves you! You sprinkle His seeds of love wherever you go!” Those words were spoken to me by my husband Joe many years ago. They came at a time when I was questioning my self-worth in God’s Kingdom, purposes, and plans. The Father made sure that in my darkest spiritual hour, I heard His Truth about my identity and self-worth. It has been my passion ever since to deliver that same message to any who may need to hear it. It is not about who we are, but Whose we are, and I am God’s girl!
