“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

The secret place is a hiding place where you can go to abide in the Father and be hidden and protected under His care. The word abide means to place yourself in a state of staying, waiting and remaining.

Abiding in the Lord means going to your secret place and waiting on Him to enter you into His Rest. It can be likened to what happens when starting a fire. Once you set up the kindle and light it, the smoke begins to billow. When you give breath to the kindling, the flames ignite—but if you continue to blow on it, you could quench it. We must strive (endeavor, make an effort) to enter into His Rest, but abiding is knowing when to go still.

When coming into the Presence of the Lord focus on His goodness, thank Him for His mercy, repent for any transgressions and praise His Holy Name. This creates an atmosphere of worship which will rise up like a sweet-smelling incense to the Lord. The minute you sense His Presence go into a Holy hush and listen for Him as you focus on His Word.

If you want to hear the Father’s voice daily, you need to contemplate on His Word daily. Don’t rush through it but be mindful about reading every scripture separately. No one should sit down and eat a whole loaf of bread all at once. Staying on a small section of scripture allows the message to remain in your heart until it becomes alive and active within you.

That’s right, the Word of God is alive! It’s not just words on paper because Jesus is the Word made flesh. He’s called the Bread of Life; when you feast on it a piece at a time it will nourish your entire being. When you read His Words and allow them to be digested into your heart, the Holy Spirit will activate your words causing the eyes of your heart to be enlightened!

“Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us; and now we have seen His Glory, the Glory of the One and Only Son, who came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.”  (Hebrews 4:11-12, John 1:14)  Jesus declared, “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the Truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears from the Father, and He will tell you what is yet to come.” (John 6:35, John 16:13) “I now pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:18-20)

Below is a short prayer and some scriptures to help ignite the kindle during your prayer time with the Father:

“Father God, I Praise You, for You are good; I sing Your Name, for it is pleasant! Yes, Lord You are good to those who wait on You, to the soul who seeks You. For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon You. You make known to me the path of life; in Your Presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. I now with confidence draw near to Your Throne of Grace to receive mercy and find help in my time of need. Oh Father, let my prayer be as the evening sacrifice that burns like fragrant incense, rising as my offering to You as I lift up my hands in surrendered worship! I pray this all in Jesus Name. Amen.” (Psalm 135:3, Lamentations 3:25, Psalm 86:5, Psalm 16:11, Hebrews 4:16, Psalm 141:2)

These scripture references below are meant to be part of your prayer time and a tool for communicating with the Father. Speak them back to Him and wait for an answer because His Words do not return to Him void.

Prayer: The Book of John – Chapters 14 through 17
Faith: The Book of Hebrews
Encouragement and Warning: The Book of Colossians – Chapter 2
Equip and Strengthen: The Book of Ephesians

“For just as rain and snow fall from Heaven and do not return without watering the Earth, making it bud and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it. You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” (Isaiah 55:10-12)

ABOUT Marie Scinto

“You are God’s girl and He loves you! You sprinkle His seeds of love wherever you go!” Those words were spoken to me by my husband Joe many years ago. They came at a time when I was questioning my self-worth in God’s Kingdom, purposes, and plans. The Father made sure that in my darkest spiritual hour, I heard His Truth about my identity and self-worth. It has been my passion ever since to deliver that same message to any who may need to hear it. It is not about who we are, but Whose we are, and I am God’s girl!
