The other night, I went to bed with a heavy heart. I found myself asking the Father a difficult question—one that has echoed through the ages: Why do You allow the innocent to be abused and tortured?

Intellectually, I knew the theological answers. I understood the reality of spiritual warfare and the fiendish, demonic infiltration of this earth. I knew that if we truly glimpsed the terror behind the veil, our hearts might fail us; we simply wouldn’t be able to process the sheer scale of it. I also knew we have a loving Father who protects us in ways we cannot see. Yet, I felt the need to ask Him out loud. Though He knows our every thought, there was something about voicing it that felt necessary.

That night, He answered me in a dream. In the dream, I saw a thought bubble hovering over me. Inside was a birdcage containing a bearded dragon and a bat. Whenever a small, innocent creature—a tree frog or a tiny bird—landed on the cage, the bearded dragon would snatch it inside. Then, the bat and the dragon would devour it shaking the cage violently. The most disturbing part was the sound: I could hear the frogs and birds crying out for help. They were repenting and pleading for the Father to save them even as they were being destroyed. When I woke up, I felt the Lord showing me a deep, sobering truth about the things we cage up inside of ourselves. I asked Him what it meant, and a clear word came to me: “If you release the bat and the dragon out of the cage, they can’t trap you.”

This revelation shifted my entire perspective. If you feel like there is a birdcage hanging in your soul today, I believe these three insights are for you.

We are often the ones holding the door shut. We try to contain our fears, anxieties, and traumas, thinking that if we keep them caged, we are safe. In reality, the cage is what allows the predators to trap the innocent parts of who we are. By trying to control the situation through suppression, we accidentally create a trap.

Is your cage being rattled? If so, the Lord is saying to release the bait!

The innocent birds and frogs were lured to the cage. If you let the bat and the dragon go—if you stop trying to "own" and house your anxieties and trauma—they are no longer a stationary point of attraction for more trouble. This is about letting go of the internal conflict altogether and trusting God with the rest. The breakthrough only happened when a specific action was commanded:

“Release!”

This implies that simply asking for rescue isn’t always the key. Sometimes, the key is taking the bold, terrifying step of opening the door and losing the false security of the cage. We often think our cages keep the world safe from our problems, or our problems safe from the world. But God is calling us to a different kind of freedom.

He is asking us to stop managing the darkness and instead, open the door and let Him clear the house, then refill it with His peace.

Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

A while back, someone prophesied to me that the Lord was saying: “I AM in the midst of the chaos, rearranging things so they will not affect you.” I invite you to ask Father God into your "house" to rearrange your furniture so you don’t bump into misplaced birdcages that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

It is time we learn how to take every thought captive and give it to Jesus—not cage it up. It is time to demolish every pretentious thought that goes against the knowledge of God.

2 Corinthians 10:5
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

ABOUT MARIE SCINTO

Marie Scinto

"You are God’s girl and He loves you! You sprinkle His seeds of love wherever you go!” Those words were spoken to me by my husband Joe many years ago. They came at a time when I was questioning my self-worth in God’s Kingdom, purposes, and plans. The Father made sure that in my darkest spiritual hour, I heard His Truth about my identity and self-worth. It has been my passion ever since to deliver that same message to any who may need to hear it. It is not about who we are, but Whose we are, and I am God’s girl!
